Maria C. Roberts
Ms. Roberts has defended a broad range of civil actions, including the successful defense of more than 30 cases tried to jury verdict. Over the past 20 years, she has defended employers in claims for unpaid wages, wrongful/constructive termination, discrimination (age, gender, race, religion, disability and sexual orientation), sexual harassment, retaliation, non-compete disputes, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of employment contracts and complaints filed with DFEH and EEOC. She has represented companies in business and commercial disputes, achieving outstanding results through early resolution, dispositive motions, and at trial. Ms. Roberts has defeated class certification in a number of cases filed as putative class actions. Ms. Roberts currently serves as outside General Counsel for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, one of the largest dioceses in the nation. Ms. Roberts received her undergraduate degree with honors in Political Science, with a minor in English from the University of San Diego. While at USD, she earned a Diploma from the Institute of International and Comparative Law from Oxford University. Ms. Roberts has received the distinction of The Martindale-Hubbell "AV Peer Review Rating" recognizing the highest levels of professional standards and achievement among lawyers.
